Headstones For Families Of Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home Columbus Ohio

About Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home Columbus Ohio

The Whittaker Funeral Home, later known as “Mrs. D.A. Whittaker & Sons,” was founded in 1905 by Mrs. Dollie Whittaker. The funeral home, which was situated at the intersection of East Long Street and Hamilton Avenue, developed into a significant commercial and social hub for the neighborhood. The Whittaker family ran it for three generations before selling it to the Diehl family in 1969. The Diehl family had previously owned and run a funeral home in Youngstown, Ohio.

Richard J. Diehl, who currently owns and runs the company, built the current facility in 1977 on the site of the original Whittaker business. It was at this time that the company’s name was changed to “Diehl-Whittaker.”

Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service is Columbus’ oldest African-American family-owned and-operated mortuary, serving all people regardless of race or ethnicity. This business has been dedicated to serving Columbus since 1905. Because each family Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home serves is respected in the community, they have been able to build a name for themself as being a dignified and trustworthy funeral home where families can come in their time of need.

Amenities At Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home

Diehl-Whittaker’s Long Street Chapel has been at their location for more than a century, but the funeral home has constantly rebuilt and updated it to make it one of the most modern and spacious places in Columbus. The chapel is a very comfortable place for you and your friends and family to get together. It is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities you could want.

The atrium lobby at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home is quiet and softly lit by skylights. More than 200 people can attend services in the quiet chapel, which looks like a church sanctuary with its pews and stained glass windows. When your family comes to see your loved one, family viewing rooms give them both privacy and a chance to get to know each other better.

Both the well-lit parking lot and the funeral home are fully accessible to people with disabilities. Their fleet of nice Cadillac cars is also modern and up-to-date. Diehl-Whittaker cares about how you feel during the funeral planning process. Their areas for choosing a casket or urn are quiet, big, and bright, with nice displays that show every detail of what they have to offer your family and loved ones.
